Cops arrest 11 in exercises across T&T

Police seized a total of $40,940 worth of marijuana and arrested about 11 people on drug charges in separate incidents this week. Over 30 people were also arrested on various offences, including rape and possession of arms and ammunition. police also issued 50 fixed penalty tickets for traffic offences.

On Tuesday, between 6 pm and 11 pm, a party of police officers from the Inter Agency Task Force and Besson Street Police Station conducted a road exercise at Duncan Street and Independence Square, Port-of-Spain. Three men between the ages of 29 and 51 years were arrested for having a total of 310 grammes of marijuana, estimated at $4,650. Two men were also arrested, one in connection with a report of rape and the other on an outstanding warrant. Police also issued 21 traffic tickets. 

The exercise was supervised by Insp Singh of the Port-of-Spain CID. In the Northern Division, during an anti-crime exercise in Arouca and Maloney between midday on Tuesday and 6 am yesterday, police arrested 26 people, including two Maloney men for possession of arms and ammunition. The police seized a black walther pistol, 14 rounds of 9 mm ammunition, a Smith and Wesson pistol with a magazine and ten rounds of 40 calibre ammunition. Five people were also arrested on outstanding warrants. 

In the South Western Division at around 4.50 pm on Wednesday, a party of police intercepted a green Nissan B 14 car along the Southern Main Road in Chatham. They searched the car and found 1.037 kilogrammes of marijuana valued at $15,555. The driver, a 29-year-old man of Egypt Village, Point Fortin, was arrested.

Also on Wednesday, police conducted an exercise in Cedros and Cap-de-Ville and arrested three men between the ages of 18 and 37 who were found to be in possession of a total of 1,584 grammes of marijuana. The drug had an estimated street value of $23,760. This exercise was coordinated by Insp Parryman and supervised by Sgt Joachim.
